Surrey. B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has deployed to a police-involved incident in Surrey.
RCMP reported on August 13, 2019, at approximately 12:25 p.m., officers in Surrey responded to a call concerning a female in distress on 103A Avenue. While police were in attendance the female fell from the ninth floor of a residential balcony and did not survive her injuries.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
