Surrey. B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified of a police-involved incident in West Shore.
RCMP reported that after 9:00 p.m., on December 11, 2019, a taxi driver drove a female passenger to the West Shore RCMP Detachment in Langford when the passenger would not pay the fare.
Subsequently the female was arrested for public intoxication and fraud, during the arrest the female suffered an injury.
Emergency Health Services transported the female to hospital, where it was confirmed she had sustained a fracture.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the injury suffered by the female.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
