Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is seeking witnesses to an incident that occurred in Vancouver on February 11, 2026.
At about 10:58pm on February 10, 2026, officers were called to a building near the intersection of East Cordova Street and Dunlevy Avenue following a report of an assault. The woman responsible then fled to a residential building near Dunlevy Avenue and Alexander Street.
Shortly after midnight on February 11, 2026, officers arrived at the second location and found the woman alone in a room. She did not respond to officers’ attempts to communicate with her and was in possession of a weapon.
She was subsequently arrested and injured during the interaction with police. She was then taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.
The IIO was notified shortly after the incident and launched an investigation.
To date, the IIO has canvassed for witnesses and gathered evidence, including body-worn camera footage, CCTV video, and medical records. Investigators have also conducted interviews.
The investigation is ongoing.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of officers and detention guards in British Columbia. It investigates all incidents involving officers or detention guards that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
