Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update regarding its ongoing investigation into a police-involved shooting that occurred in Surrey on May 25, 2026 (IIO 2026-114).
Around 7:30 p.m., officers with the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to a call about a person reportedly attempting to break into a residence in the 12200 block of Southpark Crescent, near Boundary Drive South.
Officers located the man who was the subject of the call and attempted to detain him. During an interaction that followed, shots were fired by police. The man sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital by ambulance for assessment and treatment.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and initiated an investigation, which remains ongoing.
To date, IIO investigators have canvassed for witnesses, collected evidence, including video footage and conducted multiple interviews.
Investigators are awaiting further specialized reports, including medical evidence. They also continue to review video footage and expect to conduct further interviews. Forensic analysis also remains ongoing.
