IIO Releases Jurisdiction in Lillooet Incident

INFORMATION BULLETIN
Independent Investigations Office
For Immediate Release

Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has released jurisdiction in a critical incident in Lillooet.

According to the Lillooet RCMP, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on October 14, 2015 officers were responding to a complaint related to a male causing a disturbance at the Bridge River Band Office. The male was unresponsive at the scene, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Following a preliminary investigation, the IIO has determined there is no nexus (connection) between the death of the male affected person and the action or inaction of the police. As such, the IIO has released all jurisdiction into this matter.

As with all officer-related fatalities, the BC Coroners Service has jurisdiction over the death investigation and remains solely responsible for releasing any information related to the deceased. The RCMP has jurisdiction over any concurrent investigation.
