Surrey. B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is seeking witnesses to an incident in Vancouver.
On October 16, 2019 at approximately 16:50 p.m., Vancouver Police reported that a male was taken to the ground and then arrested by several VPD officers in plain clothes near a jeweller at the corner of Alberni Street and Burrard Street in Vancouver. During the arrest, it is reported the male suffered serious injuries.
As the arrest was taking place, a vehicle collision occurred at the same intersection. There were no reported injuries from this incident.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
