Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking witnesses to an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of August 31, 2021 at Carson Avenue and Kinchant Street in Quesnel, leaving one person dead.

As detailed in an August 31 release, police fired shots after conducting a check on a vehicle parked in a lot in the 400-block of Carson Avenue. The vehicle’s occupant was transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
