IIO Team Deployed to Officer Involved Shooting in Kamloops

SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office of BC confirms it has deployed investigative staff to an officer involved shooting in Kamloops.
According to Kamloops RCMP, at approximately 2:45 this morning during a traffic stop, shots were exchanged. One officer was injured. Later this afternoon one male (affected person) was taken into custody. At approximately 5:30 pm the IIO was notified that the affected person may have sustained an injury that appears to have occurred in the initial incident early this morning.
The RCMP remains responsible for the investigation into the actions of the affected person. IIO Investigators have been deployed this evening to Kamloops.
The RCMP and the IIO will work as per the MOU signed by the Chief Civilian Director and BC Police agencies.
Due to the preliminary stage of the investigation, the IIO will not be releasing any additional information at this time.
