On Oct. 29, 2012, at approximately 20:15 hours (8:15 p.m.), Vancouver City Police (VPD) responded to a report in the 400 block of Skeena Street. When police arrived, they were confronted by a male. During the course of this exchange with police, the subject male was shot. He was taken to hospital, however he did not survive his injuries.

As result of this incident, the IIO asserted jurisdiction and has completed standard investigative activities including examining the scene, securing the officer’s firearm, interviewing witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood.

Based on preliminary information received to date, there may be witnesses who are yet to be identified.  The IIO requests anyone who may have been in the area between 20:00 hours (8:00 pm) and 20:45 hours (8:45 pm), to contact the IIO Info Line at 1-855-446-8477.

As set by the Chief Civilian Director, the IIO’s goals are to conduct fair, unbiased, timely, thorough and competent investigations and ensure transparency through public reporting.
