Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. confirms that an adult male involved in a Police-involved incident in Hope has died.
The RCMP reported that on May 16, 2019, at approximately 04:45 a.m., they received a call regarding a break and enter on Old Hope Princeton Way.
At 04:53 a.m., an officer located a motorcycle that was believed to be related to the original call. It was reported that the driver failed to stop. At 4:55 a.m., police were notified the motorcycle was involved in a collision. Shortly after, the officer arrived at the intersection of Water Avenue and Old Hope Princeton Way and located the driver.
The male driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and the IIO has confirmed that he has died. There were no injuries to other individuals.
The IIO has identified a key witness who stopped at the scene as being able to provide valuable information to the investigation. The driver is encouraged to contact the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
