Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. confirms that an adult male involved in an officer-involved shooting in Bonnington, B.C. has died.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on February 13, 2019, RCMP located a vehicle they believed to be involved in an incident. It was reported that there was an interaction with the male driver and an officer discharged a firearm resulting in an injury to the male.
On Saturday, February 16, 2019, the IIO was notified that the man had died in hospital. IIO personnel have been in contact with his family and the investigation into the incident continues.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
