Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is seeking key witnesses to an officer-involved shooting in Grand Forks on May 10, 2018.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop after responding to reports of an erratic driver. Attempts were made to engage with the male, who then reportedly struck police vehicles. During this interaction, shots were fired by police and the male was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

The IIO has identified the following key witnesses as being able to provide valuable information to the investigation.

  • The driver and or occupants of a blue/grey mid-size sedan travelling on Donaldson Dr. (north of Highway 3) between 3 and 4 p.m.
  • The driver and or occupants of a light coloured/white SUV travelling on Donaldson Dr. (north of Highway 3) between 3 and 4 p.m.
  • Any person who may have been at Motel 99 or who has any information regarding the incident are asked to call the IIO
  • at 1-855-446-8477.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
