Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has completed its investigation of a police-involved incident in Prince George.
RCMP reported that on February 28, 2019, at approximately 11:50 a.m. an officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle at 5th Avenue, near Ruggles Street, Prince George. According to the RCMP, the male’s vehicle was involved in a collision with the marked police vehicle and the male driver attempted to flee on foot. The officer was able to apprehend the male and arrest him.
Shortly after the arrest, the male complained of pain and following a hospital visit, it was reported that the male had a fractured arm.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the information obtained during the IIO investigation and has determined that the injury pre-existed any contact with police. As a result, the IIO has closed its investigation.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
