Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2023-337 in to the arrest of one man in Victoria on September 26, 2020.
Around 10:00 p.m., the affected person, a man, was arrested by members of the Victoria Police Department in the hallway at his apartment building in the 3000 block of Blanshard Street.
The man later attended the hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified by the affected person on November 11, 2023 and commenced an investigation.
Initial investigative steps sought to confirm the extent of the man’s injury. It was later determined the injury did not meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
As a result, the IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
