For Immediate Release
Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has concluded an investigation into a motor vehicle incident in Richmond.
According to the RCMP, on March 26, 2020 at approximately 7:35am, an officer reported that while attempting to close the distance with emergency lights activated, the vehicle being following was involved in a collision with another civilian vehicle at the intersection of Francis and Gilbert roads in Richmond. The officer’s police vehicle went off the road nearby but was not involved in the collision.
After the collision, the civilian vehicle the officer had been following went off the road, striking a light post and fence before coming to rest on its roof on a grassy embankment next to the road.
The IIO’s investigation overnight has confirmed that none of the occupants of the involved vehicles have injuries meeting the threshold for serious harm. Therefore, the IIO has concluded its involvement in this matter.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
