Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2022-149 into an incident in Peachland that left two people dead.
At about 4:30 p.m. on June 27, 2022, a 911 call was received reporting that a person had been shot, and a second person was planning to hurt themselves.
Officers arrived at a residence on Garraway Place shortly after the call was received, and attempts were made to contact the occupants without success.
Members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team entered the home at about 6:20 p.m. and two people were found deceased.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence – including medical and forensic evidence – and determined that police are not responsible for the deaths.
The IIO investigation is now concluded. The BC Coroners Service and police investigations into the deaths continue.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
