Surrey, B.C. – The Chief Civilian Director (CCD) of the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded an investigation into an incident in Vancouver.
As described in the IIO’s previous release, on March 20, 2021 at approximately 8:40 p.m., there was an interaction outside of the Vancouver Police Department jail on East Cordova Street between a man and police. The man fell to the ground and Emergency Health Services were called to transport the man to a local hospital for assessment.
The CCD has reviewed the available medical information and determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act. The matter has been referred to professional standards and the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner to consider undertaking further investigation.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
