Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Vancouver on June 15, 2025 (IIO 2025-148).
Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers were initially notified about a Grey Toyota Echo that had been stolen that day from the 0 Block of East Broadway.
Police located the car shortly before 4:30 p.m. the same day. A short time later, the Toyota was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the 8100-block of Matheson Crescent, near the intersection of Southeast Marine Drive and Boundary Road.
Officers then arrested a man that had been driving and who reportedly suffered an injury during the collision. He was later taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment.
The chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including video footage, medical records, police reports and witness accounts – and has determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer may have committed an offence.
The IIO investigation is now concluded, and a public report will be published following conclusion of a related police investigation and court process.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
