Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2022-283 into an incident in Vancouver that resulted in one man sustaining serious injuries.
At about 1:10 a.m. on October 22, 2022, members of the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance near the intersection of Selkirk Street and West 32nd Avenue.
A civilian witness confirmed that the man was involved in an incident at a nightclub in Vancouver during the evening on October 21, 2022, and that it was during this incident that the man was injured.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence – including statements from a civilian witness and the affected person, medical information, and police records – and determined that police actions are not responsible for the man’s injury.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
