Surrey – The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. has filed two separate reports to the B.C. Prosecution Service for their consideration of charges.
IIO 2016-039
This investigation relates to a man who suffered serious injuries during his arrest by members of the Vancouver Police Department on March 1, 2016 in the 700 block of Burrard Street.
IIO 2017-028
This investigation relates to a male pedestrian who suffered serious injuries in a motor vehicle incident in Prince Rupert on March 26, 2017 involving a vehicle driven by an on-duty RCMP officer.
In both of these cases, the Chief Civilian Director of the IIO has completed his review of the investigative file and, pursuant to Section 38.11 of The Police Act, has forwarded a report to B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.
In approving charges, B.C. Prosecution Service must be satisfied there is a substantial likelihood of conviction based on the evidence gathered by the IIO and that the prosecution is in the public interest.
As the matter is currently with the Crown, the IIO will not be making any additional comment about the facts of these cases at this time.
