Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Port Coquitlam.
Information reported by the RCMP states that at approximately 10:55 a.m. on March 3, 2022, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a motorcycle driving northbound on Shaughnessy Street. Shortly thereafter, the motorcycle collided with a Toyota at the intersection of Shaughnessy Street and Prairie Avenue.
The male rider of the motorcycle sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the collision. The occupant of the Toyota was not seriously injured.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the motorcyclist’s injuries.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
