Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the death of one man in Mission.
Information provided by the RCMP states that in the early morning hours on July 16, 2022, police responded to a report of a man pacing the northbound sidewalk on the Mission Bridge.
Officers attended and it is reported that the man had a weapon and climbed over the railing when officer attempted to take him into custody. The man subsequently fell into the water below.
Search and rescue located the man a short time later and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the death.
