Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Duncan where one man died.
Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 11:40 p.m. on December 3, 2022, Emergency Health Services received a dropped 911 call from a man who lived in the 6000-block of Westridge Road. When return calls were unsuccessful, it is reported that police were dispatched to check on the man at 11:55 p.m.
The following morning, the man was found deceased inside the residence.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the death. Specifically, the police search for the man, and whether the death was preventable, are the focus of the IIO investigation.

Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
