Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating a motor vehicle collision on the Mission Bridge where two people were injured.

Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department states that at about 12:30 a.m. today (January 24, 2025), police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Ford Mustang in Mission. It is reported that the Mustang did not stop and continued southbound towards the Mission Bridge.

A short time later, the Mustang was involved in a collision with a Hyundai Elantra on the Mission Bridge. The sole occupants of both vehicles were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will confirm if the injuries meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, and what connection, if any, police action or inaction may have played in the collision.

The IIO is asking that any witnesses that have not already provided a statement, or who have other video footage of the incident, to please contact the IIO at our Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
