Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved shooting incident in Vancouver.
Information reported by the Vancouver Police Department states in the evening on April 27, 2022, police responded to a residential building near Commercial Drive and East 5th Avenue following a complaint regarding a man.
When officers arrived, an exchange of gunfire occurred.
The man sustained gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The IIO was notified shortly thereafter and has commenced an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
