Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the injury suffered by one man during a motor vehicle incident involving the Vancouver Police Department on June 7, 2024.

Information provided by the VPD states that at around 1:30 a.m., officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle being driven by the affected person (AP).

A collision then took place involving two police vehicles and the vehicle being driven by AP around Cambie Street and 35th Avenue.

The AP sustained an injury to one arm during the interaction and was arrested. A passenger in the AP’s vehicle was not hurt.

Initial investigative steps will seek to clarify the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the collision and whether police action or inaction played a role.

Background
