Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Abbotsford.

Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) indicates that on June 19, 2021 at approximately 8:30 p.m., police interrupted an alleged theft in progress in the 30600-block of Progressive Way. Two men were located, and one drove away in a Ford E350 (a decommissioned ambulance) while the other was arrested without incident.

It is reported that there was an initial collision between the Ford and a police vehicle on Progressive Way. There was then another collision between the Ford and second police vehicle near the Bradner Road rest area, during which an officer sustained injury. The vehicle was eventually stopped, and the man arrested near 232 Street and Highway 1 in Langley. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
