Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Dawson Creek.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on April 5, 2021 at approximately 9:45 p.m., police responded to a call regarding a possibly impaired driver. An officer located the described vehicle, a black GMC Sierra pickup truck, in the 700-block of 100B Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle allegedly did not stop, and the officer reportedly did not follow.
Minutes later, it was reported that a truck matching the Sierra’s description had been involved in a collision. The truck went through an external wall and into a business in the 11000-block of 8th Street. Two women inside the business sustained injuries in the collision.
The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the women’s injuries.
