Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Langley.

Information reported by the RCMP states that at approximately 1:00 p.m. on March 27, 2022, police attempted to apprehend a man riding an electric bicycle in order to return him to a medical facility in the 25100-block of 30th Avenue. It is reported that there was a collision between the bicycle and a police vehicle, and the man sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Emergency Health Services attended and transported the man to the hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified shortly thereafter and has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the injuries.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
