Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Prince George.
Information from the RCMP states that at approximately 10:05 p.m. on May 14, 2022, police at the CN Fair Grounds responded to a report of an alleged assault. A male youth believed to have been involved was approached and advised that he was being detained.
It is reported that the youth ran from the officer onto Ospika Boulevard, where he was struck by a civilian vehicle. He sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and has commenced an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
