Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on March 25, 2021 at approximately 3:20 a.m., police attempted to stop a motorcyclist who reportedly left on foot near East 33rd Avenue and Knight Street.
A police service dog was used to assist in the arrest, and the man sustained a serious dog bite injury when he was located near the intersection of East 31st Avenue and Dumfries Street. Emergency Health Services were called and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
