Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that at approximately 8:00 a.m. on January 26, 2022, officers observed a man sought by the Canadian Border Services Agency driving northbound on Clark Drive. When the vehicle parked at the nearby Port of Vancouver, a police service dog was used to assist in taking him into custody.
The man sustained a serious but not life-threatening dog bite injury and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A minor also in the vehicle was unharmed.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
