Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vernon.
Information provided by the affected person indicates that on June 30, 2021 at approximately 2:40 p.m., an interaction occurred between himself and police near an office located in the 2800-block of 28 Street. The affected person reported that he sustained serious injuries while being taken into custody.
The IIO was advised of the incident on July 2, 2021 and has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
