Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in West Vancouver.
Information provided by the West Vancouver Police Department indicates that on April 5, 2021 at approximately 3:40 a.m., a police service dog handled by a member of the Vancouver Police Department was used to track a man as part of an ongoing investigation. The man was located in the 6100-block of Marine Drive and sustained a serious dog bite injury.
The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
