Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating an incident involving an off-duty police officer of the Central Saanich Police Service.
On July 25 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the off-duty officer was in downtown Victoria when he witnessed an employee of a nearby business being assaulted by a female allegedly committing theft. The off-duty officer intervened to arrest the female. Both the female and the officer sustained injuries.
The IIO was notified and deployed investigators as required by the Police Act.
The focus of the IIO investigation is to determine whether or not the officer may have committed any offence.
The IIO believes several witnesses were in the area (near Yates St and Blanshard St) at the time of this incident. Any potential witnesses of this incident are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
