Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating the death of a man in Coquitlam on March 19, 2024.
Information provided by the RCMP states that at around 11:45 a.m. on March 4, 2024, police were called to check the well-being of a man at a residence in the 500 block of Cottonwood Avenue. It is reported that police attended the address but did not speak to the man.
On March 19, 2024, police received another request to check on the man, who was subsequently located deceased within his residence.
The IIO was notified of the death shortly after it was discovered and commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the attempted wellness check on March 4 and what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the death.
