Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating the death of a man in an incident in Surrey that occurred earlier today.
Information provided by the RCMP states that this afternoon (March 24, 2024), police were called to a residence in the area of 159a Street and 37 Avenue due to a report of threats being made related to a marital breakdown.
Local police units from both the RCMP and Surrey Police Service and the Emergency Response Team attended.
The man was subsequently located deceased in the residence of what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries.
The IIO was notified of the death shortly after it occurred, and initial investigative steps will seek to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the death.
