Surrey. B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified of a police-involved incident in Langley.
RCMP reported that on October 23, 2019, after 3:00 a.m., officers attended the location of an abandoned 911 call. At the intersection of 72 Avenue and 208 Street, Langley, officers located a male. While attempting to make an arrest an altercation occurred.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., RCMP notified the IIO that the male was deceased.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, officers’ actions or inaction may have played into the death of the male.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
