Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified of a police-involved incident in Surrey.

RCMP reported that on January 07, 2020, at approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer attempted a traffic stop on 156th* near to 104th Street, Surrey.

The male driver of the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away. Subsequently the vehicle left the road and rolled over a number of times.

The driver was transported to hospital and RCMP notified the IIO when it became evident that the injuries were serious.

The IIO is asking anyone who saw, heard or may have footage of the incident to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
