Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update to a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Chilliwack on December 26, 2025 (IIO 2025-299).
Shortly after 10:15 p.m., a white Ford pickup truck driven by one man was involved in a single-vehicle collision near the intersection of Yale and Banford roads. Paramedics and the fire department attended the scene, but the man was pronounced deceased.
The RCMP reported no police involvement with the pickup truck prior to the collision and the IIO was not notified at the time.
On December 29, the IIO received information from the public and commenced an investigation into the incident and the circumstances that led up to the collision.
Investigators continue to ask anyone who may have seen the incident on December 26 or who have further video footage to contact the IIO.
To date, investigators have collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
The analysis of evidence obtained to date continues, while the IIO also expects to conduct further interviews.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of officers and detention guards in British Columbia. It investigates all incidents involving officers or detention guards that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
