Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is providing an update to confirm that a person involved in a recent collision in Langley has died (IIO 2024-064).
In the early morning on March 19, 2024, a black Mazda was involved in a collision near the intersection of 16 Avenue and 264 Street, also known as Highway 13.
The male passenger in the Mazda sustained serious, life-threatening injuries in the collision, and was transported to the hospital.
The man was subsequently pronounced deceased on the evening of March 19.
The IIO investigations continues to determine what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the death.

Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
