Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update to an officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 29 in Surrey (IIO 2026-076).
Around 8 p.m., Surrey Police Service officers arrived at a residence in the 13400 block of 81 Avenue responding to a call about a man reportedly armed with a weapon.
They located the man and attempted to arrest him. During the interaction, officers used a 40mm less-lethal weapon as well as a firearm and the man suffered injuries. He was taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment.
The IIO was notified shortly after the incident and commenced an investigation, which remains ongoing.
To date, investigators have canvassed the area and identified witnesses. They have also conducted interviews with civilians and police officers.
The IIO has also collected evidence, including police reports, medical records and forensic analysis. Investigators are continuing to review this evidence as the investigation continues.
