Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update to the arrest of one man that occurred on April 5 in Vancouver (2026-079).

Around 8:40 p.m., Vancouver Police Department officers responded at a home in the 8700 block of Fremlin Street for a call about a person causing a disturbance.

Officers, including a Police Service Dog (PSD), arrived and located a man outside who was the subject of the complaint.

Officers arrested the man with the help of the police dog, and the man suffered injuries during the interaction. He was then taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred.

To date, IIO investigators have canvassed the area and conducted interviews. They have also collected evidence, including medical reports and police body-worn camera video footage.

The IIO continues to collect and review evidence and expects to conduct further interviews as the investigation continues.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of officers and detention guards in British Columbia. It investigates all incidents involving officers or detention guards that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
