IIO Providing Update to Motor Vehicle Incident in Fort St. John (2026-130)

Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is seeking witnesses to a motor vehicle incident (MVI) that occurred on June 12, 2026 in Fort St. John.

Initial information provided by the RCMP states that shortly before 11:30 a.m., officers located a man driving a vehicle who was suspected of committing multiple offences. The man had avoided police attempts earlier in the day to arrest him.

Near the intersection of 112 Street and Alaska Highway North, officers used unmarked police vehicles to carry out a tactical arrest. There was contact between three involved vehicles and the man suffered injuries. He was taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and commenced an investigation.

To date, the IIO investigation is ongoing and focused on identifying witnesses and video evidence, obtaining technical reports related to the MVI, gathering statements from involved officers and other witnesses, and reviewing all relevant reports and materials.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of officers and detention guards in British Columbia. It investigates all incidents involving officers or detention guards that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
