IIO Seeking Additional Witnesses to June Arrest in Salmon Arm (2026-084)

Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking additional witnesses to and providing an update regarding an incident that occurred on September 2, 2025, in Salmon Arm (IIO 2026-084).

Shortly before midnight, RCMP officers observed a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck in the 4100 block of Highway 97B stopped on an angle on the side of the road with one of the passenger side tires in the ditch.

Police stopped to check on the vehicle. Officers started an impaired driving investigation involving the man who had been driving the truck. The driver and woman passenger were then arrested.

Police impounded the vehicle before releasing both the man and the woman.

On April 13, 2026, the woman notified the IIO of the incident and reported that she suffered injuries during the interaction with police.

The IIO started an investigation, which remains ongoing.

To date, investigators have conducted interviews, collected evidence and are in the process of obtaining further reports. They also expect to conduct more interviews.

They are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident on the highway or who may have video footage, to contact the IIO.

Additionally, investigators would like to speak further with the man and woman who were in the truck and are asking them to contact the IIO.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of officers and detention guards in British Columbia. It investigates all incidents involving officers or detention guards that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
