Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office confirms that it will be investigating an arrest that occurred in the early morning hours of February 18, 2016 involving Prince George RCMP.

At the request of the RCMP and authorized by the Director of Police Services, the IIO will commence an investigation into this incident.

Pursuant to section 44 of the Police Act, the Director of Police Services has the authority to direct the IIO to conduct investigations of police outside of its normal mandate of serious harm. IIO will be deploying investigators to Prince George.

At the conclusion of an IIO investigation, the Chief Civilian Director is required to either refer the file to Crown if any offence may have been committed or clear the officers through a public report.
