Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking further witnesses and providing an update to a police-involved shooting that occurred in Kelowna earlier this year (IIO 2026-050).

Around 10:30 p.m. on February 26, 2026, members of the RCMP located a stationary black Mercedes sedan with one man inside on Snowsell Street North near the intersection with Glenmore Road.

During the interaction that followed, the driver of the Mercedes drove away and one officer suffered minor injuries while being dragged by the vehicle.

One officer discharged their firearm, striking the vehicle which left the scene.

Police later located the Mercedes at a property on the morning of February 27.

That afternoon, police located the driver at a separate residence and confirmed he had suffered gunshot wounds. He was arrested and taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The IIO investigation into the incident continues. Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the incident on February 26, 2026, or who has video footage not already provided to the IIO, to contact the IIO.

To date, investigators have collected evidence, including medical records, police reports and forensic analysis. They have also interviewed witnesses, including police officers.

The analysis of evidence obtained to date continues, while the IIO also expects to conduct further interviews.
