New Investigations – Jurisdiction Sustained

On May 12, 2014 at approximately 5:30 a.m., a Central Saanich Police officer observed a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on West Saanich Road, between Spartan Road and Hartland Road. The officer made a U-turn with the intent of conducting a traffic stop. Shortly thereafter, the officer located the vehicle off road. The driver of the vehicle, an adult male, sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital. The IIO was notified immediately and deployed investigators to the scene.

On May 31, 2014 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Mission RCMP Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 7, east of Deroche. During efforts to conduct the traffic stop, it was reported that oncoming traffic took evasive action due a vehicle crossing the center line. A motorcycle that was unrelated to the original traffic stop collided with another vehicle. Both the operator and the passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The adult male operator of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. The IIO was notified immediately and deployed investigators to the scene.

Investigations into these incidents are presently underway. The involved police agencies remain responsible for any parallel investigations into the alleged actions of the affected persons.
