Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. confirms that the affected person, a passenger in a motor vehicle incident in Campbell River, has died.
On March 28, 2020 shortly before 4:00am, officers responded to a call near the 2100 block of South Island Highway in Campbell River. While officers conducted their investigation, a civilian vehicle on the Island Highway collided with the center median and struck a tree. The passenger suffered serious injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital, where he subsequently died.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
