Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into a motor vehicle incident in Kelowna (IIO 2024-084).
At around 5:25 p.m. on April 15, 2024, an RCMP officer observed a man riding a motorcycle southbound on Highway 97 North and attempted a traffic stop.
The motorcycle did not stop and was then involved in a single-vehicle collision shortly thereafter on the off-ramp from Highway 97 to University Way.
The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and commenced an investigation.
The Interim Chief Civilian Director has now reviewed the evidence – including medical information, video footage, police reports and a statement provided by the Affected Person – and determined there are no reasonable grounds to believe the actions or inaction of any officer contributed to the single-vehicle collision of the motorcycle.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
